"Individuals have the ability to develop,to make choices and to
participate in the community as productive citizens."

Introduction

Excursions, Therapeutic Recreation
Service (ETRS) is new and innovative
organization designed to assist mentally and physically disabled children and adults in
realizing their potential for growth and development through therapeutic recreational
skills at the Branded B Ranch.

Excursions, was created by Debra A. Riley who has been an advocate for the challenged
for over 25 years.  She has worked for  several agencies that  provide services for
mentally and physically disabled children and adults.

Excursions, Therapeutic Recreation Services is an organization governed by an
Advisory Committee and serves mentally and physically disabled residents of Shawnee
County.  The staff of this organization have extensive experience in providing a variety
of social services for children and adults as well as experience in program
development, implementation, monitoring and fiscal management.

The need for a therapeutic recreation program was identified through a survey which
was conducted using mentally and physically challenged participants from residential
and day programs in Shawnee County, Kansas.

ETRS, services result in major benefits for all participants involved. Because the plan is
designed to develop or improve recreational skills, participants will have the
opportunity to participate in a therapeutic recreation program.  As result they will
become stable, productive and well-informed members of the community
